Paint and disconnect from the madness

Just now...The world just feels a bit too heavy!

Hey Reader

Some days the world just feels… heavy.

You wake up, scroll the news, listen to conversations around you, and it can feel like everything is loud, urgent, and slightly too much. Your mind fills up with worries that aren’t even yours and before you know it your shoulders are tight and your carrying the anxiety of everything inside your head. 🤯

I think we all feel that sometimes. Especially just now…

And when the world gets noisy, I’ve noticed how much I need to focus on, think smaller and take myself away from the messy middle…

Watercolours never fail to help with this.

Just the quiet act of putting brush to paper. Only focusing on the thing in front of you. It removes that constant jibber jabber in your head - try it!

Because when you paint, something interesting happens. Your attention gently shifts. Instead of worrying about everything happening out there, your mind starts focusing on what’s happening right here. Right now!

The water touching the paper.
The way colour spreads.
The tiny decision of where the next brushstroke will land.

It’s small.
It’s slow.
It’s allowed
And it’s strangely stabilising.

Watercolour in particular has this beautiful way of asking you to let go.

You can’t fully control it. The paint moves, the water flows, the shapes soften… and somehow in allowing that to happen, your mind softens too.

It’s like your nervous system gets the message: We’re safe here for a moment.

And that’s really what art can be.
A small pocket of peace in a mad and crazy world...

A place where your thoughts settle, your breathing slows, and you remember that not everything needs solving today.

Sometimes all you need is a brush, a little colour, and ten quiet minutes to yourself.

Not to escape the world. But to steady yourself within it.

So if the world has felt a bit heavy lately, this is your gentle reminder: you’re allowed to step away from the noise for a little while.

Put some paint on paper.
Let the colours wander.
Let your mind wander too.

You might be surprised how much lighter things feel afterwards.

Til next time,
Sue 🎨💛
