How mixing art up grows your brain

There's something amazing that happens when you mix things up....

Hey Reader

When things get boring the saying is GO LARGE...But I say the opposite.

Time to go small...Mini in fact

There's something amazing that happens when you mix up your art practice and try scaling up or down...

It begins to feel exciting again, a challenge and a way to create something new. Never underestimate the effect of a new challenge on your brain.

Neuroscience tells us that the act of starting a new artwork activates the brain's reward system, releasing feel-good chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin.

Creating a sense of pleasure and satisfaction, reducing stress and easing anxiety.

This means the beginning of a new, perhaps intimidating, project is physically and mentally calming. So, start something today!

So...Why mix it up?
Well..The act of trying new artistic techniques or media enhances brain plasticity, helping to build new, permanent neural connections.

Mixing things up literally grows the networks in your brain. 😲

So...go small...go big.. go mono...go mad...go abstract

MIX IT UP 🤷‍♀️

I did - I went small and these series of cute (like mega cute!) landscapes are now for sale in my online art store.

Plus you can learn how to paint 6 of them with me from inside my 'Little Box of JOY' ON sale now...

Til next time… allow yourself to have fun...

Til next time,
Sue 🎨💛

watercolour florals

Nature's messy right? Hey ReaderI live in the UK. It’s wet - Most of the time! But wow - the past 6-7 weeks have just been dark, damp and damn right depressing. There I said it and if you’re here in the UK with me too. You’ll know what it feels like when it actually stops raining.I feel like the daffodil at the bottom of my garden “Can we come out yet? Has it actually stopped!”So…This week it stopped. For a little bit and I actually got to go for a walk - in nature. Cup filled right there....

you dont need fancy watercolour supplies

Start with what you've got... Hey ReaderI just had to tackle this topic this week. I watched a Youtube video yesterday, from a pretty established watercolour artist and honestly their work is just beautiful. But...she was talking about supplies - paper, brushes, paints. The video kind of went like this...Buy the best if you wanna get better. Spend all of your spare cash on paper and that's the only way you'll make something from your art - I call a big bold BS to that - I really do.And here’s...

Two fingers up to Valentine's Day

Two fingers up to Valentine's Day.... Hey ReaderHave you ever sat down to paint… and instead of it feeling freeing, it feels completely forced? Well, that's what the prospect of Valentine's Day has done to me this week. You see...I share a studio space in Cardiff with a whole bunch of beautiful, creative people - all doing their own thing to find a slice of joy - and to share it. And this week I felt the need, guilt, pressure to paint for Valentines Day!But...Every single time I sat down and...
