It's time to ring fence and protect your creative time..

Hey Reader

It’s been a little while, hasn’t it? 💛
Sorry - let me try and explain...

My nan had a phrase... please try not to take offence - her phrase was
" We've got it all 'arse backwards'"

I THINK SHE MEANT LIFE...
…work, family, to-do lists, all the everyday things that quietly take over. And somewhere in all of that, creativity slips behind.

So, the one thing that I know that protects my mental health, helps me to switch off and re-fills my cup.. Get's pushed to the bottom of the list - time and time again!

Not because it isn’t important. It's the most important thing EVER!
But because it doesn’t shout loud enough - it's quiet.

No notifications - "hey you've not painted this week"
No deadlines.
No immediate urgency.
Just paints sitting quietly, waiting.

I know this because I let creativity slip too - hello again brush after 3 weeks!

And yet, painting has never just been about “making art” for me.
It’s about slowing down.
Breathing a little deeper.
Finding space when everything feels full. It’s feeling full just now!

Is it just me - or is everyone’s go to word - BUSY!!

Maybe your paints have been waiting for you too.
Maybe you’ve also said “ Ah, I’ll go back to it when this is over”

But, one thing I've learnt is that life rarely settles - you've gotta settle it!
It's time to switch things up and put creative practice first...

So instead of waiting for more time, I’ve been thinking it might be about something else entirely…Creating a little more quiet within the time we already have.

It's time to ring fence and protect your creative time...

Ten minutes with a brush.
A safe community space to create
Simple. guided painting to help you disconnect
Just to come back to yourself.

Because that’s how creativity grows. Slowly. Gently. In small moments that belong to you.

And it’s why I’ve been quietly creating something behind the scenes…

A safe, gentle creative space to paint and switch off when life feels too loud.

"If you’ve ever wanted a regular moment in your week where the noise goes away, you pick up a brush and nothing else matters - this community is for you".

Not just lessons. And flippin heck - not just about feeding the content machine!! More like a monthly space to exhale.

I’m calling it The Joyful Watercolour Collective, and I’ll share more with you very soon.

For now, just this:
Don’t wait for life to get quieter before you paint.
Let painting be what brings the quiet.

And if it’s been a while since you also picked up the brush … consider this your permission slip. Go paint...

Til next time,
Sue 🎨💛

P.S. I’d love to know if this sounds like a community space you’d be interested in being part of. Zero pressure, zero comparison - just a safe space to paint and grow.

Autumn watercolour flowers

The best thing you can do for your painting is to let it rest... Hey ReaderHere’s something I’ve learned about watercolour…Sometimes the best thing you can do for your painting is leave it alone.Put the brush down and walk away…Stop fiddling Go and make a cup of tea.Do literally anything other than add just one more bit.Because there comes a point where you’re no longer improving the painting. You’re just… interfering.Honestly...I’ve done this SO many times.“Hmmmm. It needs a little more...

purple watercolour flowers

The power of purple... Hey ReaderI think I’m going through a purple phase. 💜For the last few weeks, I seem to be reaching for purple every time I sit down to paint. There’s something about purple in watercolour that just feels a little bit magical. It’s moody, it’s soft, it’s dramatic and, depending on how much water you throw at it, it can be about 17 different colours. 😂But here’s what I’ve really been loving…Purple + Sap Green + Orange. They just work.Purple and orange are opposites on the...
